From overseeing day-to-day operations, to presenting at global industry conferences, our founders share a passion for providing exceptional service to the space industry.

Sean McDaniel

Chief Executive Officer

Sean McDaniel is a co-founder and the CEO of ATLAS Space Operations. With over 25 years in the space communications industry, and experiences spanning leadership in the U.S. Air Force to other private space communications start-ups, McDaniel has cultivated the knowledge, skillset, and technical proficiency necessary to lead ATLAS. McDaniel is equally found working on highly technical projects with the engineering and software teams, and honing ATLAS’ long-term strategy to align with company vision and industry trends. McDaniel prioritizes culture and core values to steer the ATLAS team. With clear communication, strategic problem-solving, and a team dynamic predicated on iterative learning and development, ATLAS is well-poised to continue their notable growth. McDaniel holds a M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado and a B.S. in Mathematics from Michigan State University. A Michigan native, he views the value that ATLAS brings to Northern Michigan as crucial in developing the state’s growing space economy.

Brad Bode

Chief Technology Officer

Brad brings over 20 years of software development experience in the aerospace industry to the ATLAS team. He has designed, developed, tested, and deployed satellite command and control, mission planning, and data management applications throughout his career. Now, Brad is the genius behind the ground-breaking Freedom™ Software Platform. He holds an MS in Computer Science from Northern Illinois University.

Mike Carey

Chief Strategy Officer

Mike Carey is a co-founder and the Chief Strategy Officer of ATLAS Space Operations. Before ATLAS, he served in the US Air Force for thirty-two years, attaining the rank of Major General. In the years since, Carey has refined his skills and expanded his knowledge. He now leads by first tuning in to the ever-changing satellite communications needs of society and ATLAS’ clients. In doing so, the work that he is responsible for is centered around the development of infrastructure and technology that will bring people and space closer together. Carey has distilled his mission and streamlined ATLAS’ efforts to provide innovative and proven solutions for satellite operators. Carey holds a BA in History from the University of Central Florida, an MPA from the University of Oklahoma, and an MA in National Security & Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He’s proud to have returned to his home state of Michigan, this time creating jobs and driving innovation.

Mike Rendine


A decorated Vietnam Vet and Retired USAF Colonel, Mike has 40+ years of aerospace/defense experience specializing in missile defense and defense space programs. An early VP of Orbital Sciences Corporation, founder of ASA Industries and Assured Space Access Technologies, he is both technically knowledgeable and business savvy. A three time successful entrepreneur, Mike brings expertise in financial management and contracts, in addition to his deep industry roots and engineering skills, to the ATLAS team. Mike holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University and an MA in Industrial Management from Central Michigan University.

Joe Winowiecki

Chief Financial Officer

Joe is a 30-year finance and business executive with demonstrated success in helping companies achieve high-growth and profitability. Prior to joining the ATLAS team, Joe served as CFO of Versus Technology, Inc. whereas a key member of the leadership team, he helped lead this healthcare automation company through double-digit growth and profitability and ultimately the sale of the company. Joe’s experience includes ownership of four other companies and negotiation/integration of several acquisitions and mergers. Joe’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and Accounting from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration in Accountancy and Taxation from DePaul University. Joe earned his CPA designation in 1989.
